2026 FIFA World Cup Group D: Points Table, Results & Fixtures

Group D feels pretty open, and none of the teams really stand far ahead of the others. The United States will have the home crowd behind them and will try to keep control of the games. Paraguay are usually very organized at the back and makes things tough for opponents. Turkey have skill in their squad and can suddenly change a game when they hit form. Australia play a more direct, physical style, which stems from their hard qualifying route. With such different ways of playing, this group could be difficult to predict and might see a few surprises.

The opening match of this Group will feature hosts USA taking on Paraguay on June 12, 2026, in Inglewood, while the last round of matches in this group will take place on June 25, following a simple but demanding format. Each team faces the others once, resulting in three matches per side. Standings are determined by points, with official Tie-Breaker Rules applied if two teams end up on same points. The top two teams progress directly to the Round of 32, while the third-placed team may still advance depending on its performance relative to other groups.

With 48 teams in the tournament, every result carries significant weight. Early wins can shape qualification paths, while dropped points quickly increase pressure. This page covers everything related to Group D, including live standings, results, fixtures, and qualification scenarios as they develop.

📐 Ranking & Tie-Breaker Rules – Group D

If two or more teams finish level on points in Group D after the group stage, rankings are determined using the following criteria, in order:

Step 1: Head-to-Head Criteria (Primary Tie-Breakers)

  • Greatest number of points obtained in matches between the teams concerned
  • Superior goal difference in matches between the teams concerned
  • Greatest number of goals scored in matches between the teams concerned

If teams remain level after applying the head-to-head criteria above, the following overall group performance criteria are applied:

Step 2: Overall Group Performance

  • Superior goal difference in all group matches
  • Greatest number of goals scored in all group matches
  • Highest team conduct score (fair play points based on yellow and red cards)

If teams are still level after all sporting criteria, the final decision is based on FIFA rankings:

Step 3: FIFA World Ranking

  • Higher position in the most recent FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking
  • If still equal, earlier FIFA World Rankings are used until the tie is broken
